Holden Beach Sponsors the Panama Posse

Holden Beach is located in southern Brunswick County on an 8-mile-long barrier island on the Atlantic Ocean, bounded by Shallotte Inlet to the west, Lockwoods Folly Inlet to the east, and the Intracoastal Waterway to the north.

 

Holden Beach It has a population of 664 and sits on one of five barrier islands that make up the Brunswick Islands of North Carolina.
This is the first public town to sponsor the Panama Posse and we look forward to making life long friendships.

 

We are excited to welcome the  Panama Posse to our Holden Beach Paradise.

Advanced reservations can be made online at hbtownhall.com, or by visiting Holden Beach Town Hall.
• Sign in at Town Hall across the street upon arrival. (After house please see Police Dept.)
• Boat welcome for 72 hours in any 30 day period.
• No generator running while docked.
• No loud noise after 10:00 PM.
• No swimming or diving from the docks.
• No fishing from the docks.
• No open flames on the docks or adjacent green space.
• Anyone less than 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

HISTORIC SITE

During the Civil War Holden Beach and Lockwood’s Folley Inlet became the resting place of the Confederate blockade runners CSS Elizabeth and CSS Bendigo and the Union blockade ship USS Iron Age. uss iron age
The remains of the Bendigo can be seen on the eastern end of the island during the periods of low tide. Its wreck is marked with an orange navigation warning buoy and is located between Holden Beach and Oak Island.

While the vessel’s wreck is roughly 200 feet long, only the base of the engine’s exhaust funnel and a small portion of superstructure are visible above water. The ship is easily reached during low tide by swimming is covered in abandoned fishing gear.
