Strategic Partnership which saves you money !!!!

Last week the Seven Seas association and the Panama Posse signed a strategic Partnership.

“We are excited to see so many cruisers head south, down the Mexico coastline, Central America and through the Canal to South America, the Caribbean and Cuba.    Along with safety seminars and the marina discounts that the Panama Posse provides its cruisers, SSCA can go farther to help cruising sailors on the rally and beyond the rally  with webinars, a Facebook page that has over 13,000 followers, introductions to our Cruising Station Hosts around the globe and discounts with our many marine partners and sponsors.”

Membership in SSCA is always a great deal, but for a short time, new membership will be discounted for registered Panama Posse participants.    If you are a registered participant, email office@ssca.org  to inquire about the discount on a new membership.

The crew section also displays mayor airports and has tips on what makes good crew.
Please note if crew “jumps’ ship”  in a foreign port you are responsible for re-repatriation flights so we recommend establishing a crew bond.

MUST VISIT PLACES ON THE PANAMA POSSE ROUTE  >>>

🇲🇽  PALENQUE … learn more … >>>
It is estimated that less than 10% of the total area of the city is explored, leaving more than a thousand structures still covered by jungle.

Palenque  also anciently known as Lakamha “Big Water” , was a Maya city state in southern Mexico that flourished in the 7th century. The Palenque ruins date from ca. 226 BC to ca. 799 AD.  After its decline, it was overgrown by the jungle of cedar, mahogany, and sapodilla trees, but has since been excavated and restored with an onsite museum. It is located near the Usumacinta River in the Mexican state of Chiapas resides at 150 meters (490 ft) above sea level .

YOUR DINGHY WILL BE STOLEN IF YOU DO NOT LOCK IT UP !
Prior spots of dinghy theft have been added to Good Nautical  – look for the warning signs

Please, please, please always hoist your dinghy up and lock it at night !

Always lock your dinghy – especially if you go on shore.

Tie it to a sturdy pole or tree and remove any valuables.

Thieves are opportunists may swim out to cut your dinghy’s painter and

then use rocks on the beach to break off locks.

Please use a (pad) lock with a difficult point of attack and a heavy chain

or re-in-forced coated wire – see a sample lock below.

PICTURE OF THE WEEK

MY SPREZZATURA GOING THROUGH THE CANAL

Panama arrival update:

Arrival at  Bocas del Torro was quite strait forward local MINSA visited at anchor and accepted PCR test from Cartagena even if was 6 days old

(3 days sailing and 3 days clearing out of Cartagena)

Customs Agriculture  and Immigration also boarded at anchor but then we went ashore for Port Captain and to the Airport for Immigration stamps etc.

In all painless and authorities very helpful

One odd thing when we leave Bocas del Torro the agent in Colon advised that we need a COVID PCR test before arrival there even though we are in the same country

PANAMA POSSE’S GESTALT THEORY
OR HOW TO PASS ON INFORMATION TO THE GROUP

What is Gestalt and Why You Need To Know It –
( THIS IS VERY MUCH OPPOSED TO FACEBOOK AND SOCIAL MEDIA PRACTICES )

Gestalt Language Protocol is something I picked up from training in connection with a couple of different groups one of them being EO Gestalt Language Protocol may sound suspiciously like something the Secret Service uses to decode enemy communications, but really, it is simply a set of ideas about how to communicate with other CAPTAINS CREW and individuals in a nonthreatening manner so that people within the group feel like they can really share and learn. Here are some general ideas about how it works:

1. Speak from your own experiences rather than giving advice or opinions

2. Use “I” statements instead of “You” statements

3. Speak in past tense

4. Avoid the “Should”, “Would”, “Could”

5. Do not speak in generalities, be specific

It can take a lot of practice IT IS HARD !!!
but I have found that when people don’t openly communicate it is often because they feel threatened. Nobody likes to be reminded that they messed up up or that maybe don’t have or understand a solution. Whatever the case may be, Gestalt Language Protocol eliminates many of the barriers and obstacles to real communication. It is centered on creating a safe environment where people feel safe, help each other and NOT feeling inferior.
